ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, SEPTEMBER 9TH – What began as a nation mourning the sudden death of former Senator Neilon Franklyn has transformed into widespread outrage following reports that the 28-year-old political figure was murdered by poisoning.

Franklyn, who collapsed and died at the General Hospital, initially appeared to have been killed by unknown natural causes.

However, according to reports from the Associates Times, an autopsy has revealed troubling findings about the circumstances of his death.

The Associate Times reported that the examination was concluded by renowned pathologist Professor Hubert Daisley of Trinidad and Tobago, who found that Franklyn died from multiple organ failure due to the presence of lethal substances in his organs.

According to the Associates Times’ reporting, Professor Daisley discovered a suspicious substance in Franklyn’s body during the autopsy and has reportedly taken samples back to Port of Spain for detailed analysis.

The news outlet reports that while the exact type of poison has yet to be confirmed, sources suggest the toxic substance was a coolant, possibly ethylene glycol – the main ingredient in antifreeze commonly used in vehicles.

The Associates Times indicates that Franklyn was allegedly given the toxic substance in a drink, which led to the organ failure that caused his death.

These findings align with earlier reports that have been circulating throughout Grenada, including social media speculation that he was poisoned with “red coolant used in vehicles” that was allegedly mixed into his drink.

His mother has reportedly been informed of these findings.

Notably, the Royal Grenada Police Force is yet to issue an official report on the matter, leaving many questions unanswered about the ongoing investigation.

The unverified murder allegations have ignited fury across Grenadian social media, with citizens expressing shock, demanding justice, and calling for thorough investigations.

“THAT IS THE SADDEST PIECE OF NEWS I HAVE HEARD IN A VERY LONG TIME. THE KILLER MUST BE FOUND. IF YOU KNOW SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. JUSTICE FOR NEILON,” wrote Lydia James in a passionate plea for answers.

The disturbing nature of the alleged poisoning method has particularly shaken residents.

“This is so sad, man…..No more taking drinks from People…Go to the bar and watch them make it yourself. Ah, doe want no Stag that open!” commented Djorn Dallas Reggae Bain, reflecting growing fears about personal safety.

Others expressed their horror at what they see as an escalation in criminal behavior.

“Wow. If this is true, Crime has gone to a different level now,” observed Laurina Waldron, while Susan Peters asked incredulously, “Ahhĥh!!!!!!……no mercy????? Satan just took full charge of allu whole head so??”

Many Grenadians have turned to their faith for solace and justice. “Vengeance is mines says the Lord, and He is definitely not sleeping,” wrote Leonora Augustine, echoing sentiments shared by several commenters seeking divine intervention.

Adding to the tragedy, Franklyn’s death comes amid reports that he was among three customs officers who have died recently, raising questions about whether there could be connections between the deaths.

“The other two need a good autopsy too,” suggested NollyAnn Brathwaite, voicing concerns shared by others about the pattern of deaths.

Neilon Franklyn made history as one of Grenada’s youngest senators when he was appointed to the 11th Parliament’s Upper House at age 25, following the June 2022 General Elections.

His appointment came at the recommendation of then-Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Mitchell.

Franklyn served as a member of the New National Party (NNP) until recently, resigning as a senator effective September 30, 2024, and subsequently leaving the opposition party.

A St. George’s University graduate as of May 2025, he worked as a customs officer while maintaining his political involvement.

Political leaders from across the spectrum have paid tribute to Franklyn. Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell described him as “a passionate advocate for youth empowerment and economic development,” while Opposition Leader Emmalin Pierre called his death a loss of someone “gone too soon.”

The NNP, in mourning their former member, said Franklyn “served Grenada with distinction and dedication during his time in the Upper House of Parliament and as an executive member of the party.”

The investigation is currently ongoing with law enforcement and medical experts working to determine the exact cause of his death and the circumstances surrounding Neilon Franklyn’s passing.

Citizens are demanding transparency from authorities and swift justice if the murder reports prove accurate.
