ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada, February 13 – Yet another video of alleged police brutality by the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) has surfaced on social media, igniting widespread public anger and renewed demands for independent oversight of law enforcement in Grenada.

The footage, which quickly went viral, shows police officers striking a civilian in the stomach, leading to an outpouring of condemnation from citizens. Many have taken to social media to call the officers’ actions “disgusting” and demand a formal investigation into the incident.

This latest controversy has again fueled ongoing debates about law enforcement conduct, with legal professionals, including American-trained attorney Jerry Edwin, renewing calls for an independent body to investigate police misconduct.

Edwin, who has represented alleged victims of police brutality, has long been an advocate for police reform in Grenada.

“In every society, everywhere, there is an independent body that investigates official misconduct,” Edwin stated. “There is nothing—nobody—to investigate the police.”

The RGPF, facing mounting pressure, has acknowledged the video and announced an internal investigation.

In a press statement, the police confirmed they were aware of the incident, saying, “This behavior does not align with the standards upheld by our organization, and as such, an investigation has been initiated… We acknowledge the concerns shared by members of the public and assure you that necessary actions will be taken upon the conclusion of the investigation.”
