ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, January 29 – Former New National Party (NNP) General Secretary Peter David is kicking off a nationwide series of public consultations, beginning with a town hall in his St. George constituency on Thursday, January 30.

These meetings aim to gather public feedback that could shape his next political steps, including the possibility of forming a new political party.

A flyer from the Member of Parliament’s Office invites residents to the St. George’s Methodist School event, also known as Park School, encouraging them to “share thoughts, concerns, and ideas as we work together to shape the future of Grenada.”

Similar meetings are expected to follow across the country.

David’s consultations came after his dramatic NNP exit earlier this month.

He entered Parliament as an independent for the first time on Tuesday, marking a significant shift in his political career.

Speaking to MTV News before his parliamentary appearance, David confirmed his commitment to engaging with the public.

“I don’t know where the future is going, but for now, I am free of the party whips,” David stated. “I am free of the shackles of the party, but the people’s interest still shackles me. That is the shackle I wear when I stand here.”

David’s resignation from the NNP came weeks after he withdrew from the party’s leadership race, citing concerns over alleged election manipulation favoring new leader Emmalin Pierre.

His departure triggered mass resignations, including all 17 St. George constituency branch members, who accused the party of undemocratic practices.

As an independent MP, David says his primary responsibility is to his constituents rather than any political organization.

“Now I have to operate within the constraints of the people,” he told Parliament on Tuesday. “As an independent member, I have to continue to seek the interest of all the country’s people.”
