St. George’s, Grenada, January 3rd – The Grenadian government’s initiative to regularize public sector employment is advancing, with the program’s second phase nearing completion.

This phase, which focuses on workers holding Public Service Commission (PSC) contracts, contracts of service, daily paid positions, and ministry letters, marks a significant step toward streamlining public sector employment and ensuring fair treatment for all workers.

In a recent update, the Permanent Secretary in the Department of Public Administration, Lyndonna Hillaire-Marshall, outlined the progress made in this phase, which involves reviewing the positions of more than 1,200 public officers. Despite significant advancements, she noted discrepancies during the functional review.

“We mentioned that we are doing it in phases, so the second phase is where we are wrapping up right now. We’ve gotten the data from the functional review, but we are still not satisfied with all that we’ve received,” Hillaire-Marshall explained in an interview with MTV News.

“We’ve gone back to some of the ministries for validation of the information so that we can make more informed decisions.”

The government aims to finalize recommendations for this group of employees and present them to the Cabinet by the end of January 2025. Hillaire-Marshall emphasized the importance of resolving outstanding issues to ensure the integrity of the process, which currently involves approximately 1,267 workers.

Once this phase is concluded, the government will focus on the third phase of the regularization initiative, involving workers holding service contracts and participants in the Imani program. The first phase, completed earlier, addressed individuals in acting, temporary assignment, and probationary statuses.
