MAURICE BISHOP INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Grenada — Passengers aboard a JetBlue Airways flight from Grenada to New York endured a second deplaning in less than 24 hours on Friday after a series of delays stemming from recurring mechanical issues.
Originally scheduled to depart Grenada’s Maurice Bishop International Airport on Thursday, the flight was delayed following a bird strike incident.
Engineers worked to resolve the issue, but after six hours, JetBlue could not clear the aircraft for departure, rescheduling the flight for the following day.
“JetBlue was supposed to leave yesterday because of a bird strike. They thought they fixed the problem, but after a six-hour delay, they couldn’t. Now, today, we’re back at the gate again,” said the passenger.
Passengers were rebooked for a new 11:00 AM departure on Friday, yet they were again back at the gate around noon, just as the plane began taxiing.
“Okay, so we are deplaning again—engine problems. The pilot just announced. He said engine number two is not giving him the parameters to take off,” one passenger shared with frustration. “I just called my job… we are going back out again.”
Another passenger expressed a mix of disappointment and resignation at the repeated delays.
“Well, it doesn’t look like I will get home soon. JetBlue was supposed to leave yesterday because of a bird strike. They thought they fixed the problem, but after a six-hour delay, they couldn’t. Now, today, we’re back at the gate again,” said the passenger.
“As much as I don’t want to return to the good old U.S. of A., I have to — so praying for safe travels.”
JetBlue has yet to issue an official statement, but reports indicate passengers have been offered compensation options, including hotel vouchers and rescheduling support.
