Diaspora crowd turns on political commentator Perry as Prime Minister intervenes repeatedly to restore order.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, MAY 17TH – Supporters of Grenada’s ruling National Democratic Congress heckled and shouted down political commentator and podcast host Perry as he posed pointed questions to Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell and Project Polaris sponsor Andrea St. Bernard about the controversial hospital development project during a town hall meeting in New York on Sunday.

Perry, a known critic of the Mitchell administration, was mid-question when the crowd erupted, attempting to prevent him from completing his remarks.

He had asked the head table to explain why a groundbreaking — which traditionally signals the start of construction — was held when only a concept plan representing less than 15% of the full architectural drawings had been received.

He also sought an explanation for the $22 million already expended on the project, noting that a full set of architectural plans is estimated to cost approximately $50 million.

“Slow down, alright, guys — this is not a communist outfit,” Perry declared defiantly as the heckling intensified. “This is the United States of America, where the First Amendment reigns supreme.”

Prime Minister Mitchell was forced to intervene on multiple occasions to quiet the crowd.

“He’s entitled to ask the question,” Mitchell appealed. “Let him finish, and then we will respond.” At one point, he urged attendees: “Don’t be disgraceful, please.”

St. Bernard acknowledged the project remains incomplete, conceding, “We are still in the process of creating designs.”

The scene drew swift condemnation online.

“This behavior is disappointing — these are simply logistical questions,” wrote one commenter. Another called it “tribalism at its highest level.”

Others noted the irony of the confrontation unfolding on American soil: “Guess you can’t ask an educated question,” one observer posted.

NDC diaspora supporters have previously drawn criticism for aggressive online behavior and what some describe as cyberbullying of government critics.
