ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA AUGUST 24- Dwayne and Noleen Thompson are crying political victimization after a series of setbacks to their Sweet Water Tours business coincided with Mrs. Thompson’s announcement as the New National Party’s caretaker candidate for St. David’s constituency in April 2025.

The couple’s troubles began when the Grenada Airport Authority unexpectedly terminated their staff transportation contract in May, despite requesting a one-month extension just weeks earlier.

In a strongly worded complaint letter, Noleen Thompson expressed “deep concern and disappointment” over the authority’s handling of the contract renewal process.

“Despite our active engagement and history of service, our company received no formal communications from your office regarding the status or outcome of the new contract,” Thompson wrote to Airport Authority CEO Edgar Stevens.

“This complete lack of transparency and professional courtesy is unacceptable.”
The Thompsons discovered their contract had been tendered to another company without their knowledge, despite being the incumbent service provider.

Adding to their woes, Dwayne Thompson received a six-month suspension and $1,000 fine from the Airport Taxi Association in May—five months after a December incident where he referred passengers to a colleague driver.

The harsh penalty contrasts sharply with another union member from St. David’s who was caught on camera stealing a customer’s wallet but received only a one-month suspension with no fine.

Thompson was also erroneously banned from airport premises while conducting private tour business.
Airport Authority Business Development Manager Tijuana Slinger later admitted security “misunderstood the memo” and promised corrective action.

“A new memo would be circulated and updated, especially to airport security and staff, that Mr. Thompson is not banned from the airport,” Slinger confirmed.

The timing has raised eyebrows, with speculation mounting that the Thompsons are facing retaliation for challenging Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell’s hold on St. David’s constituency.
Mitchell currently represents the parish in Parliament.
