St. Patrick, Grenada, February 13-  The New National Party (NNP) is reeling from a fresh wave of resignations as eight members of the St. Patrick’s East Branch have stepped down, further complicating the party’s already precarious situation following former General Secretary Peter David’s departure.

The resignations signal ongoing discontent within the NNP as internal fractures threaten its once-dominant position in Grenadian politics.

In a damning letter addressed to NNP General Secretary Roland Bhola, the members expressed their frustration with a party leadership they feel has acted in an undemocratic and disrespectful manner.

“We hereby tender our resignation from the party effective immediately,” the letter states. “The principal reason for our resignation is the highly undemocratic and conniving manner in which delegates were handpicked for the last convention, sidelining long-standing members, including ourselves.”

The resigning faction emphasized their disillusionment with the party’s leadership, noting, “This move has been highly disrespectful to us and unappreciative of the tremendous personal sacrifice we have made towards the success of the NNP over the years.”

They cited their experiences of “political victimization” and the loss of personal opportunities as further reasons for their departure.

The St. Patrick’s East resignations come on the heels of the high-profile exit of Alister Bain, the long-standing chairman of the NNP’s St. George North West constituency branch, who left citing ethical leadership concerns and a lack of internal democracy within the party.

Bain’s resignation, along with that of David, signals significant turmoil within the NNP, with other branches following suit.

The situation intensifies as Peter David prepares to host a town hall meeting at the Anglican school in St. Patrick on Thursday, February 20.

Speculation mounts about forming a new political movement, as David has garnered significant support since his exit from the NNP, including during his first public town hall meeting which drew over 300 attendees.
